Make Money Cleaning Up Clutter!
One of my biggest goals this summer was cleaning out clutter in our house. My husband and I had SO MUCH STUFF when we moved in. I thought I'd be going through boxes forever!
One thing we have had a hard time decluttering is media. We have lots of vinyl, CDs, DVDs, and books (SO MANY BOOKS!) We are from the generation before everything was online and most things could be streamed. So we own a lot of TV seasons on DVD and boxed sets. It's so much to store.
We managed to make some progress by adding IKEA Kallax shelving units to our basement. We actually have three of these down there now. We love the new walnut effect color! I really need to take an updated picture.

These units have helped us organize the media we are keeping (for now). We have packed four boxes of books and DVDs to donate to our local library this fall for their annual sale. For some of our clutter, however, we were able to make money by selling books and DVDs online!
When I was on college, I used to make money each semester by selling back by textbooks from the previous semester. Since then, the online buyback business has expanded and changed!
We used sellbackyourbook.com and it was super easy. If you use their website, you have to type in the ISBN numbers off the book cover or DVD package. They also have an app you can download on your phone. The app has a built in scanner so all you have to do it scan the barcode and the app will tell you if they are accepting that item, and how much they will pay for it. Once you've scanned all your items, you pack them in a box, the website will email you pre-paid packing labels (so you don't even have to pay shipping!) and you drop them off at either a post office or FedEx store.
I have to be honest with you. Most items aren't worth much. Our box of books and DVDs was only worth about $31.00 but I felt that it was worth it because the process was quick, easy, didn't cost me anything, and it's $31 we didn't have before. We plan on adding it to our house savings and putting it toward a new entertainment unit we are designing for the basement. As we go through the rest of our media, we definitely plan on selling more back in the future.
